Speech and language therapy
Speech and language therapy at a Pasadena hearing and speech center. Licensed speech-language pathologists (SLPs) evaluate new clients, set goals and recommend how often to come; supervised SLP assistants carry out one-on-one, play-based sessions using toys, games and stories. Parents or caregivers take part so skills carry over at home. Therapy covers articulation and phonology, receptive and expressive language, fluency (stuttering), voice, auditory processing assessment, and pragmatic and social skills. The center assists children with Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy and craniofacial anomalies. Sessions are on-site or by HIPAA-compliant teletherapy. It is vendored with Eastern Los Angeles and Lanterman regional centers. Open Monday to Thursday 8am to 6pm and Friday 9am to 5pm, by appointment only.

Pediatric audiology and hearing screenings
Pediatric audiology is the cornerstone of this center's services. Audiologists begin by talking with parents and child about goals and concerns, then use age-appropriate testing: impedance and otoacoustic emissions, Visual Reinforcement Audiometry with a light-up toy reward for babies up to about three, Conditioned Play Audiometry for children over two and a half or three, and hand-raise testing from around age 5. Parents stay in the room to support the child. The center also fits pediatric hearing aids and offers central auditory processing disorder (CAPD) services. It has provided free hearing, speech and CAPD screenings across Los Angeles County since 2009. Adults are seen too. By appointment only, Monday to Thursday 8am to 6pm and Friday 9am to 5pm.
