Privacy
Summerground helps families find kids’ programs, schools, doctors and places to go. You can use it without an account. If you make one, what you tell us about your family is yours: it’s kept for you alone, used only to find what fits, and deleted whenever you ask.

Without an account
Summerground sets no cookies and runs no ads or trackers. We count visits with Plausible, which uses no cookies and keeps nothing that identifies you: just totals, like how many people visited a page and from which country, and how many searches were made.
When you search, what you type is sent to our server and on to Claude, the AI from Anthropic that runs Magic Search, to find listings that fit. We keep the words of each search for 90 days, to see what families are looking for and what to add to the site. They’re kept on their own, without your account, your IP address or your family’s details. When few of our listings fit, Claude also looks on the web, with short search phrases made from what you typed (never your family’s details), and shows what it finds there. We keep the places it finds, with the kind of place that was being looked for, to add them to the site.
Our host, Netlify, keeps ordinary server logs (such as IP addresses) for security and to limit abuse. The map’s tiles come from OpenFreeMap, which sees the requests your browser makes for them.
With an account
When you make an account, we keep:
- Your sign-in: your email address, and a password (stored only as a secure hash) or, if you sign in with Google or Apple, the name and email they share with us. Apple lets you hide your real email.
- What you choose to tell us about your family, all of it optional: the names of the people at home and the month and year each was born (or their age), the town or neighborhood you live in, and whatever you write about your family in your own words, such as what the kids love, when they’re busy, and what you’re looking for.
Some of what you might write, like special needs, allergies and health details, is sensitive. Share only what you’re comfortable with: Magic Search works without any of it.
How we use it
Only to make your search results fit your family. While you’re signed in and “Use my family’s info” is switched on (under the search box on the home page), your family’s details go along with each search to Claude (Anthropic), which uses them to find and explain listings that fit. We send ages, never birthdays. When you chat about your family on your account page, Claude reads what you write, with your family’s profile as it stands, to keep the profile up to date and ask what would help next; you can see and change everything it saves.
We never sell your information, never share it with providers or advertisers, and never use it for ads or for sponsored or paid placements: no one can pay to be shown to your family because of what you’ve told us. We don’t use it to train AI models, and under Anthropic’s commercial terms, Anthropic doesn’t train its models on it either.
Who else handles it
These companies process data for us, only to run the site:
- Supabase stores your account and your family’s details, and the words of recent searches (on their own, as above), in the United States.
- Anthropic runs Magic Search and receives your searches (and your family’s details, when you search with them). It may keep them for a limited time for safety and abuse monitoring, under its own policies.
- Netlify hosts the site and its server functions.
- Plausible counts visits and searches, in the European Union, without cookies or anything that identifies you.
- Google and Apple, if you sign in with them.
We’d share information otherwise only if the law required it.
Keeping it safe
Everything travels encrypted. Your family’s details are stored so that only your account can read or change them: no other account can see them, and we look at them only if you ask us to help with something.
Your choices
- See and change it: everything is on your account page, where you can edit or remove any of it.
- Take it with you: “Download everything” on your account page.
- Delete it: “Delete my account” deletes your account and everything in it from our database, right away. Copies in our short-term backups are overwritten within 30 days. Or write to hello@summerground.com.
Wherever you live, including California, you can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and we won’t treat you differently for asking. Write to hello@summerground.com.
Children
Summerground is for parents and caregivers. Children shouldn’t make accounts, and we don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. What an account holds about children is what their parent or caregiver chooses to tell us, and they can change or delete it at any time. If you think a child has made an account, write to hello@summerground.com and we’ll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update it here and change the date at the top; if it’s a change that matters, we’ll tell account holders by email first.
