ABA therapy

Up to age 21

Applied Behavior Analysis for children diagnosed with autism and related developmental and behavioral diagnoses. Comprehensive programs, typically 25-40 hours a week, often start in toddlerhood just after diagnosis. Focused programs are also offered. Care is one-on-one in the child's home, at school (instructors may shadow the child), in FirstSteps Learning Centers, or by telehealth. Each child has a BCBA Program Director overseeing a team of RBT instructors. Goals include social skills, healthy sleep, feeding difficulties, self-care and daily living. Caregivers receive formal ABA training and join treatment team meetings. Center social skills groups after school and a summer program, FirstSteps For Friends, are offered. Funding is through health insurance (in-network with most California plans, including Medi-Cal), regional center including Early Start, or school district IEP as a certified nonpublic agency.
