Tool Training

Engineering and maker class · Ages 7+

Sundays 10am-noon at either workshop; registration required. Finishing Tool Training is the usual way in to Open Tinkering. Closed-toe shoes required. Homeschool charter funds accepted.

Open Tinkering

Engineering and maker class · Ages 8+ · $30/session

Sundays 10am-1pm at either workshop. Kids must have done Tool Training or a full week of Tinkering Camp in the past 12 months, or have a facilitator's OK. Stationary power tools are used only with direct supervision. The first 5 pounds of materials are included; more cost $1 a pound.

Birthday parties

Party venue · Ages 6+ · $550–$650/party

Birthday parties at Rediscover Center's Mid City and Venice spaces.The Upcycled Art Party, for ages 6 and up, has each child make a sculpture or craft from upcycled materials, with an optional theme such as vehicles, insects, fairy houses or inventions. The Tinkering Party, for ages 7 and up, starts with tool training on clamps, drills and hand saws, then a design challenge or themed build. Both run 120 minutes of making, then 60 minutes for cake and snacks. Facilitators work at a ratio of 1 to 5. The Upcycled Art Party costs $550 for the first 15 participants and $20 for each additional child, up to 25. The Tinkering Party costs $650 for the first 10 participants and $30 for each additional child. To book, use the online form on the party page or call 310-393-3636.

About Rediscover Center

Nonprofit maker space founded in 2004 that teaches kids and adults to build with real tools and discarded materials. It has workshops on Washington Boulevard in Venice and in Mid City (opened 2024), plus camps, family crafting and school programs.
