Special education classes and Resource Specialist Program
Several special education classes for students with learning disabilities and autism, serving children from preschool through fifth grade. A Resource Specialist Program (RSP) serves students with mild disabilities or learning difficulties who are mostly included in general education classes. The school uses a blended model: students move between special education and general education classrooms according to their needs, with two to four teachers, and nearly all get some small group instruction each day. A self-paced reading program is offered as an alternative core program for students struggling with reading, while the same students can join an accelerated math class. Support staff include a psychologist, speech therapist, occupational therapist, adaptive physical education teacher and a Deaf-and-Hard-of-Hearing specialist, plus teachers with advanced training or experience with autism. Students come from neighboring schools and other parts of Los Angeles.
