Saturday Japanese Language Classes

Ages 5+ · $500

Levels are Beginning I, Beginning II, Intermediate and Advanced, and students are placed by Japanese proficiency, not age. No Japanese background is needed. Classes average about 10 students. Spring semester runs January 23 to May 15, 2027.

  • 2026-27 school year: Aug 29, 2026 – May 15, 2027
  • Published as tuition for the 2026-27 Saturday program. Plus a $50 one-time annual registration fee. $480 for each additional sibling.

Saturday Afternoon Japanese Culture Program

Ages 5+ · $150–$200

Held after the morning classes, in small mixed-age groups. No textbook is needed and a small materials fee may apply. The October course runs four Saturdays (October 3, 10, 17 and 24) and the November course three (November 7, 14 and 21).

  • Saturdays, 1–3pm
  • Fall 2026 courses: Oct 3 – Nov 21, 2026
  • $200 for the four-session October course, $150 for the three-session November course.

A nonprofit Japanese language and culture school in San Francisco's Japantown, founded in 1911. It teaches children and teens aged 5 to 18 on Saturdays, in small classes placed by Japanese level.
