Youth Orchestras and String Ensembles
Sacramento Youth Symphony offers several levels of string, wind and full orchestra ensembles, from beginning groups through the Premier Orchestra, led by conductors including Ryan Murray, Maryll Goldsmith, Angelo Moreno and Greg Brucker. Players join by audition; the ensembles take less seasoned youth with at least one year of experience as well as intermediate and advanced players. Students learn music history and theory, perform in more than 20 concerts a year, and some ensembles tour locally or internationally. The Classic Strings ensemble rehearses Tuesday evenings at 601 N. 10th Street, and the Classic Winds, Brass and Percussion group meets Thursday evenings online. Registration rates are listed on the site. The same organization also runs Overture Strings, a free after-school program for 3rd to 5th graders at two Sacramento City Unified elementary schools, with instruments provided.

About Sacramento Youth Symphony
Sacramento Youth Symphony was founded in 1956 as a 55-member youth orchestra and now has more than 400 young musicians from across the Sacramento Valley. It runs string, wind and full orchestra ensembles from beginning through advanced levels and presents more than 20 concerts a year. It also runs a summer chamber music workshop for ages 7 to 19, an after-school band program, and Overture Strings, a free after-school string program in Sacramento City Unified elementary schools (Father Keith B Kenny School and Pacific Elementary School) that began in 2012 and is modeled on El Sistema. Ensembles can also be hired for events and school presentations.
