Play Mountain Place
Play Mountain Place is a play-based, child-directed school for preschool and elementary-aged children, on a spacious, historic campus on a quiet street near Ballona Creek. Its website describes a non-authoritarian, progressive and experiential approach, and says children spend most of their days outdoors whatever the weather. The state licenses it as a day care center with room for 44 children, and the state record dates the license to February 1993. The school calls itself one of the earliest humanistic alternative schools in the United States and is marking its 75th anniversary. Its admissions pages cover how to apply and tuition and fees, and it offers parent resources on respectful communication at home, a reading list and an alumni community. A Board of Trustees speaks for the school.
