Saturday Mandarin Classes
About 18 classes teach traditional and simplified characters with Zhuyin and Pinyin; students are placed by age and level, and classes can count for high school language credit. Three class periods run 8:45-11:45am, with optional culture classes such as calligraphy, dance and martial arts afterward (11:55am-12:45pm). Parent & Me classes take ages 3-5. Families must do volunteer service.

- 30 Saturdays. New families pay a $125 registration fee and a $400 volunteer-service deposit. Extracurricular classes $200 a year.

The Chinese Language School of Southern California, known as Westside Chinese School, is a nonprofit Saturday Mandarin school run by parent volunteers. It meets at Grand View Boulevard Elementary in Mar Vista.
