Youth wellness and adaptive swim
A nonprofit aquatic center offering swim lessons and youth wellness programs, including camps, tutoring and asthma screenings, for people of all ages and abilities. Its services are designed so that people living with a physical or developmental disability have access to therapeutic and recreational aquatic programs. The pool is 8 feet deep and kept at 91 to 94 degrees. Pools of Hope says more than 2,000 children a year receive therapeutic swim lessons, asthma treatments, tutoring and school supplies. Age requirements vary by program, and class schedules and membership pricing are available from the center directly. Family and annual memberships exist. The center is open Tuesday through Saturday.

Aquatic occupational therapy
Occupational therapy delivered in one-on-one sessions that combine aquatic and land-based techniques, including myofascial release, neuro-developmental treatment, sensory motor integration and functional motor skills, chosen according to the child's individual condition. Aquatic therapists are certified in water safety and CPR. The therapy takes place in the Long Beach warm-water pool (91 to 94 degrees). Pools of Hope says aquatic physical and occupational therapy typically requires a prescription and that it accepts most insurance. A separate four-class caregiver OT training program is offered to family and friends caring for someone with a disability, with a free caregiver toolkit. The center is open Tuesday through Saturday.
