Lumbini Child Development Center (Preschool to Transitional Kindergarten)
Lumbini Child Development Center is a preschool and daycare at 505 East 3rd Street in Little Tokyo, run from the Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple, with goals based on Buddhist principles. It is open year-round, Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM, and is licensed for children from age 2 to 5. Children are grouped in three classrooms: the Orange Room, often a child's first time with other children, where they learn tracing, painting and first letters and numbers; the Yellow Room, which builds independence and beginning writing; and the Red Room, a transitional kindergarten class with teacher-led phonics and math for kindergarten readiness. The program treats art, music and play as the way preschoolers learn. Two snacks are served daily, with an optional lunch, and the staff help with potty training.
