## Children's audiology and speech-language services

Up to age 21

The Children's Care Center provides audiology and speech-language pathology to children from birth to adulthood. Services include testing to determine the degree and type of hearing loss, fitting of hearing aids, bone conduction devices and cochlear implants, and assessment of listening and communication skills, especially speech and oral language. The center offers pre-evaluations for cochlear implant candidacy and ongoing and post-implant therapy for children with hearing impairment who have speech and language problems, including aural habilitation. It works closely with a child's school and therapy personnel so that everyone is working as one team toward communication goals. The Institute reports treating more than 1,200 children with hearing problems each year. It is vendored with Lanterman Regional Center. It does not see children for ear infections.
