# South Bay Children's Choir

A children's choir founded in 1996 and based at El Camino College in Torrance, with six sequential ensembles for ages 6 to 18 that rehearse on Saturday mornings from September to May. Singers come from more than 25 South Bay communities and tour nationally and internationally.

## Songbirds (ages 6-7)

Ages 6–7 · $179/session

Songbirds is the non-auditioned first step into the choir. Children explore music fundamentals through singing games, movement and imaginative play inspired by John Feierabend's research-based curriculum, aiming to become tuneful, beatful and artful. Registration is with the choir manager in early September for fall and early January for spring. $179 per 10-week session.

## Music Makers (ages 8-9)

Ages 8–9 · $750/year

Children learn healthy vocal technique, solfege (do-re-mi) for pitch accuracy and introductory score reading through partner work, small-group activities and full-ensemble singing. Ages 8 and up sign up for a no-preparation group audition so directors can place them. Tuition is six payments of $125 (three if starting in January); a 15% discount for paying the year up front, a $40 sibling discount and tuition assistance are available.

## Lyric Voices (ages 10-12)

Ages 10–12 · $840/year

Singers strengthen vocal technique, solfege and music reading, explore more advanced choral literature in harmony and learn how their voice fits into the whole ensemble. Placement is by a no-preparation group audition. Tuition is six payments of $140 (three if starting in January).

## Encore Chorale (ages 13-18)

Ages 13+ · $930/year

Encore Chorale sings classical masterworks, folk traditions and music from around the world while refining solfege, sight-reading and vocal artistry, and performs more often than the younger groups. Boys 12 to 18 in Encore or Bel Canto can also join Troubadours at no extra cost. Placement by audition. Tuition is six payments of $155.

## Bel Canto (ages 13-18)

Ages 13+ · $1,140/year

Bel Canto is for singers who show up prepared, practice independently and work as a team, performing classical masterworks, folk music in many languages and jazz. Members must also be enrolled in Encore Chorale. Tuition is six payments of $190.
