## Therapeutic riding lessons and facilitation sessions

Up to age 17

Each participant starts with an individual assessment. The program then builds a custom plan around the person's needs and their doctor's recommendations, and matches them with a suitably sized and trained horse, volunteers and trained therapy staff. Therapy riding lessons teach basic skills such as balance and steering, with volunteers helping with mounting, dismounting and leading the horse. Facilitation sessions are led by certified equine-assisted facilitators, on the ground (grooming, leading, lunging) or on horseback (trail riding, arena work, obstacle courses), and aim at emotional regulation and confidence. A licensed psychologist is on staff for participants needing more oversight, such as for PTSD. Traditional English and Western lessons are also offered. Lessons need 24 hours' notice to cancel. Let's Ride Therapeutic Equestrian Program is a nonprofit (501(c)3) in the Los Angeles area offering riding programs for adults and children with physical, emotional and developmental disabilities. Ann Marriner started it in 2010 from the horses and clients of the equine therapy program of The Willie Ross Foundation, and Patti Bauman is co-founder. The program runs on volunteers and also rehabilitates the horses it uses. It offers therapy riding lessons, traditional riding lessons, facilitation sessions and horse training.
