## Therapeutic riding and equine assisted learning

Ages 3+ · $900/term

Therapeutic Riding, also called Adaptive Riding, is recreational horseback riding adapted to people with disabilities. The instructor works with each rider to set a goal focused on a riding skill, with benefits that include strength, balance, flexibility, motor planning, motor control, sensory processing, social emotional learning and cognitive functioning. Equine Assisted Learning uses planned learning experiences with horses to address non-riding skills such as communication, coping with emotions and stress, empathy and life skills. Open to students with physical, intellectual and developmental disabilities and mental illness, minimum age 3. Lessons last 30 minutes, usually with two or more students, in 10-week Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall sessions. A 10-week session costs $900, and scholarship applications are available on request.
