Children from birth to 3 receive weekly in-home visits from early intervention specialists. The visits build visual functioning, sensory awareness, communication, play, self-help and social skills, and support physical, cognitive and emotional development. Children 3 to 6 who meet the same criteria join quarterly events. Staff also go with families to medical appointments, consult with classroom teachers and give IEP support and guidance. Services are offered in English and Spanish. Referral comes from a regional center or school district. In Southern California the program reaches families of Eastern Los Angeles, Harbor, North Los Angeles, San Gabriel/Pomona and South Central Los Angeles regional centers (and Kern and Tri-Counties).
