## Parenting training for parents with developmental disabilities

Up to age 18

One-to-one parent training and support for developmentally disabled parents, from expecting mothers and fathers to parents of infants, toddlers and pre-adolescents, who are referred by their regional center. The core curriculum builds practical skills for caring for a baby or older child: positive discipline, safety skills, CPR and first aid, responding to medical emergencies, nutrition, family planning, and parents' rights and self-advocacy in IEP meetings. Support also covers prenatal care and Lamaze training, bonding and age-appropriate activities, money and household management, referrals for child care, schools, therapy, SSI and WIC, plus family reunification and monitored visitation support. Services are one-to-one or in a group, in the family's home or in classroom settings. 24-hour emergency assistance is listed. Funded through Lanterman and South Central Los Angeles regional centers; individuals must meet regional center criteria.
