For children from birth to three, the Early Start program uses a series of contacts and assessments by several professionals. For people over three, intake means an interview and a psychological assessment. An eligibility team then reviews the information, and an intake counselor shares the decision. Regional centers must finish intake within 45 days for children under three and within 120 days for those over three. The developmental issue must have started before age 18. Intake is free to everyone regardless of citizenship status.
