Intake and assessment gives comprehensive developmental and functional evaluations to determine eligibility for preschool-aged children not enrolled in an LAUSD program; families, physicians or early learning providers can refer. Eligible children receive an IFSP (birth to 3) or an IEP (ages 3 to 5). Early Start Low Incidence serves infants and toddlers with hearing, vision or orthopedic needs through parent and caregiver coaching. Preschool options run from inclusive PKIT, where a special education teacher visits LAUSD preschools, TK, Head Start and community preschools, to self-contained classes, plus an after-school early childhood program and home instruction for children with a medical referral. Instruction targets communication, motor, social-emotional, self-help and early academic skills.
