## One-to-one friendship program

Ages 11+

A friendship program that builds one-to-one friendships between people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), offering social mentoring and aiming to improve quality of life and inclusion. Best Buddies describes it as helping break through social barriers during an important stage of a young person's social and emotional development. It serves people with IDD, including Down syndrome, autism, Fragile X, Williams syndrome and other undiagnosed disabilities. Families can join a program or volunteer through a form on the California site, and someone from the local area reaches out. Established Best Buddies chapters at schools, universities and community (Citizens) chapters are also open to join by membership application. The California office also runs leadership development, integrated employment and inclusive living programs, plus family support and resources.
