## Psychotherapy and autism consultation

Psychotherapy and consultation with a licensed psychologist who specializes in developmental disabilities, especially autism spectrum disorders, and also sees typically developing children and adults. Her approach is insight-oriented and psychodynamic, adapted to each client, and for autism draws on modified cognitive behavior therapy, Social Stories, Comic Strip Conversations, the Emotional Toolbox, relationship-based therapies, behavior therapy, video modeling, visual schedules, role playing and relaxation training. Parents are treated as co-therapists, and she refers to speech, occupational, psychiatry and educational therapy colleagues when needed. She also offers diagnosis and treatment of autism, family and parenting support, classroom observations, educator training and developmental, interactive parenting programs. The practice is not taking new private practice clients at this time, but she still consults with parents, professionals and adults with autism seeking guidance. Dr. Freedman is fully bilingual in Spanish. Adults are seen as well as children.

Dr. Sarita Freedman is a licensed psychologist (PSY14985) in Calabasas who sees adults and children, with a specialty in developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders. She was a special education teacher and trained future teachers before becoming a psychologist, and has worked with young children, adults and families for over 30 years. She founded College on the Spectrum, which helps students with autism succeed in college and in life, and wrote a book on preparing students with autism for college. She also trains and supervises Marriage and Family Therapy students at California State University, Northridge, in working with people on the spectrum.
