## ABA therapy and autism diagnosis

Contemporary ABA therapy for children with autism, described as playful, naturalistic and age-appropriate, guided by data, with parents treated as core partners in treatment. Every child starts with an assessment, and the team then recommends where therapy happens: in the home and community, at an AST Learning Center, through telehealth, or in partnership with the child's school. Learning Centers offer one-on-one support in individual and group settings, and social skills programs run in small groups. Goals include language and communication, social and play skills, daily living skills, flexibility with new routines, fewer behaviors that interfere with learning, and school readiness. AST also does autism diagnostic evaluations for children from 18 months to 5 years 11 months. Occupational therapy, speech therapy and counseling are offered at some locations. The Burbank office is a Lanterman Regional Center vendor for behavior management services, so regional center funding applies; insurance coverage is also handled by AST.
