## Intake and eligibility assessment (ages 3 and up)

Ages 3+

The Intake & Assessment Unit handles applications for regional center services for anyone age 3 or older, including adults. Eligibility depends on a diagnosed developmental disability (intellectual disability, epilepsy, autism spectrum disorder or cerebral palsy) that began before age 18, is likely to continue indefinitely and is a substantial disability. The process has three parts: intake by phone, in writing or in person; an Assessment Clinic held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, where an Assessment Coordinator completes a psychosocial assessment covering developmental history, family functioning and cognitive, motor, communication, social, emotional, educational and self-care skills; and an assessment period in which school, medical, psychological or psychiatric records are reviewed to determine eligibility. The clinic recommends any further evaluations needed. Serves eastern and northeastern Los Angeles County; a satellite office is in Whittier. Children under 3 apply through Early Start at (626) 299-4777 or (626) 299-4691. Adults are served too.
